CM approves proposals worth `2,629 crore for irrigation in Banswara district

Jaipur: Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot has given financial approval of Rs 2500 crore for the construction of Upper High Level Canal from Mahi Project in Banswara district and Rs 129.19 crore for strengthening work of Shri Haridev Joshi Canal and its distribution system.

Gehlot has also included 121 additional villages in the command area in this project related to the development of tribal areas. With this project, irrigation facility will now be available in 41903 hectare area of 338 villages of Banswara, Bagidaura, Anandpuri, Sajjangarh, Kushalgarh and Gangatalai tehsils of Banswara district which will increase the social and economic standard of living of the farmers of the area. With the approval of the Chief Minister, a 105 km long canal will be constructed whose discharge will be 20 cusecs. Under the project, the entire area will be irrigated by pressure based pipeline up to a unit of 1.25 hectares with sprinkler system.

This will make it easier to store water and more water will be available for irrigation. The work of land acquisition and other statutory clearances for the project is in progress. In the existing command area of Mahi Project, water is carried directly from the main dam by two major canals, Right Main Canal and Left Main Canal and Moongda Canal. 338 VILLAGES WILL GET ENOUGH WATER FOR IRRIGATION
Initially, under Upper High Level Canal Project, to provide irrigation facility to 27340.82 hectare area of 217 villages from Saddle Dam No.-1 near Bortalab village of Banswara tehsil, a High level canal scheme was proposed. now a total of 338 villages will get enough water for irrigation.
It is noteworthy that the CM had announced the Upper High Level Canal Project in the budget of the year 2022- 23. The construction of Upper High Level Canal out of Mahi project was announced by the previous government in the year 2018 to create new agricultural irrigated area, but the works were not started.

129.19 CRORE FOR HARIDEV JOSHI CANAL SYSTEM
With the Rs 129.19 crore sanctioned by CM for Haridev Joshi canal system, efficiency of irrigation water will increase in about 12,891 hectares of land & farmers will be ensured of water required for irrigation. Hundreds of farmers in and around Anandpuri tehsil of Bagidaura village of Banswara district will be benefited. With CM’s nod, repair works will be done in length of 270 kms of 52 minors & sub minors along with Rohaniya Minor, Chhaja Minor & Ambadara Minor under Haridev Joshi Canal & its distribution system whose condition is dilapidated.
