Ban after 13 years enrages students

Jaipur: After 13 years, once again, the government has banned the Student Union elections. In the order issued late Saturday night, the Higher Education Department has decided not to conduct the student union elections, citing money power and muscle power used in the elections. When this order reached the student leaders, all students gathered at the main gate of Rajasthan University late at night & started protesting.

Student polls were banned for the first time in 2004, after which in 2010, CM Ashok Gehlot removed the ban. The student leaders have lodged a strong objection to this decision of govt.

NSUI officials said that they will soon meet CM Gehlot & demand for conducting student union polls. The order banning polls cites the violation of Lyngdoh committee norms, along with spending huge amount of money in polls and discolouring the city.
