As scrap policy comes into effect in Raj, old vehicles to be scrapped

Jaipur: All old and polluting vehicles will now be destroyed after the implementation of the scrap policy in the state. The policy was launched by the Government of India eight months ago in September 2021. The transport department has given guidelines for the establishment of scrap centres.

Under the policy, vehicles as old as 15 to 20 years will be scrapped. A commercial vehicle will be declared junk after 15 years while that for a private one is 20 years. Vehicle owners will have to take them to the automated fitness centre after the stipulated time.
The government claims that the policy will not only reduce the financial loss of vehicle owners, but will also protect their lives and reduce accidents. According to the policy, vehicles that are 20-years-old and do not pass the fitness test will be deregistered. Experts say that a certificate will be given to the vehicle owners on getting their old vehicles scrapped.
