Ambitious Rs 5,000 crore tourism plan

Jaipur: The contribution of tourism in the state’s economy is the second highest after the mining sector. Now the government is ready to take tourism to 25 percent of SGDP.

On Wednesday, Dy CM Diya Kumari announced new tourism policy to speed up tourism development along with formation of Rajasthan Tourism Development Board, Rajasthan Tourism Infrastructure and Capacity Building Fund and works worth Rs 5,000 crore would be done in five years through RTICF.

Heritage tourism, religious tourism, rural tourism, eco-tourism and adventure tourism will be developed from this fund.

Various works at a cost of approximately Rs 200 crore at 20 major tourist destinations including Jaipur, Jodhpur, Udaipur, Bharatpur, Sawai Madhopur and Pushkar will be done. Plan will be made for the walled city area and monuments of UNESCO World Heritage Jaipur. Jaipur Walled City Heritage Development Plan will be prepared and works worth Rs 100 crore have been proposed to be taken up on this.

Lesser Known Sites Ramgarh Crater Site-Baran, Sambhar Lake area- Jaipur and Jhamarkotra and JawarUdaipur will be developed with a provision of spending about Rs 30 cr on development. Fossil Park and Open Rocks Museum is also proposed to be built in Khabha Fort Complex Jaisalmer.
