After Supreme Court ruling, forest min holds meeting over eco zones in Sariska

Jaipur: After the Supreme Court order that mining will no longer be possible within a kilometre radius of tiger reserves and sanctuaries, a meeting was held on Tuesday under the chairmanship of Forest and Environment Minister Hemaram Chaudhary at the Secretariat regarding the determination of eco-sensitive zone in Sariska.

Ministers Tikaram Julie and Shakuntala Rawat were also present in the meeting and said that the industries or mines will not be affected with this decision.

Keeping the Supreme court ruling in mind, the entrepreneurs of the affected area met Ministers Rawat & Julie to discuss the possibility of closure of industries and mines around Sariska National Park.

After the meeting, the ministers claimed that the existing industries and mining operations would not be affected, but new industries or mines would not be allowed. They said, since the chairman of the pollution board could not attend meeting, a decision could not be taken.

According to sources, Sariska National Park, spread over 1216 square kilometres, has 482 square kilometres as National Park while 881 square kilometres is a buffer zone, sanctuary area and Critical Tiger Habitat.
