ACB nabs Kota RTU VC taking Rs 5 lakh bribe

Jaipur: The Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) team on Thursday, caught the Vice Chancellor of Rajasthan Technical University (RTU) Kota, Dr Ramavtar Gupta, while accepting a bribe of Rs 5 lakh. Additionally, the ACB Jaipur team has also recovered 21 lakh rupees cash from the Vice Chancellor’s room. The action was taken on Thursday at the Govt Guest House at MNIT Jaipur campus.

ACB DG BL Soni said that the bureau had received a complaint on the WhatsApp helpline. “It was informed that Dr. Ramavtar Gupta is demanding a bribe of Rs 10 lakh in lieu of increasing engineering seats in private universities, providing facilities and not troubling them,” Soni said.

The complaint was verified and a trap was laid.

On Thursday Dr. Ramavtar Gupta called the complainant to the government guest house on MNIT Jaipur campus with Rs 5 lakh where the ACB team arrested the Vice Chancellor while accepting the bribe. When the ACB team conducted a search operation in the room, the sleuths cash of Rs 21 lakh, in addition to the 5 Lakh rupees bribe amount.

Meanwhile, officials have confirmed that the origin point of the 21 lakh rupees will be investigated. Officials suspects that this suspicious amount could also be part of the bribe from other ‘victims’ of the VC.
