A seat characterised by intricate caste dynamics and shifting electoral trends!

Jaipur: The Tonk–Sawai Madhopur Lok Sabha constituency in Rajasthan has emerged as a battleground for political parties, with eight Vidhan Sabha segments shaping its electoral landscape. Before the 2009 Lok Sabha elections, this seat was known as Tonk Lok Sabha seat, which included Dudu & Phulera areas. The area boasts popular leaders like Kirodi Lal Meena, Ex-Dy CM Sachin Pilot, & Kanhaiyalal Chaudhary among others.

The constituency, formed in 2009 after delimitation, has witnessed significant political manoeuvring where voter turnout stood at 63.21% in 2019, indicating significant engagement and interest among the electorate.

The BJP and Congress have traded victories, each understanding the intricate caste equations of Meena, Gurjar, and minority communities in the region.

In the last three elections, BJP secured victory twice, with Congress winning once. In 2014, Congress fielded former Indian cricket team captain Mohammad Azharuddin for this seat. Meanwhile, BJP fielded businessman and Gurjar leader Sukhbir Singh Jaunpuria from Haryana who won with a margin of 135,506 votes, overshadowing Congress’s minority candidate. Sukhbir Singh Jaunapuria, the incumbent MP, has established a strong presence, winning consecutive terms. Jaunapuria’s track record, coupled with his grassroots engagement and welfare initiatives, positions him as a formidable contender for BJP

The Tonk–Sawai Madhopur Lok Sabha constituency remains a key political arena in State, characterized by intricate caste dynamics and shifting electoral trends.

The 2024 polls are poised to be fiercely contested, with both BJP and Cong strategizing to secure victory in this pivotal constituency.
