200 feet strip on JLN Marg continues to be contentious

Jaipur: The unresolved matter of 200 feet strip on both sides of Jawaharlal Nehru Marg continues to be a contentious issue after 23 years. Despite its significance, the issue has been repeatedly ignored, raising questions about its fate.

JDA’s coffers may be filled with Rs 1000 crore if the issue is resolved.
The strip located on both sides of the JLN road, which goes to Jaipur International Airport, has remained unutilized.

Despite the government’s intention to develop this stretch, little progress has been made.
The Urban Development and Housing department had issued a regulation policy for colonies on both sides of Jawaharlal Nehru Marg in 2002.

It mandated a 200 feet strip on both sides of the road from Mahaveer garden to Jawahar circle.
Mahalaxmi Nagar, Gokul Vatika, Kala Colony, Shakti Nagar, Adinath Nagar are among the colonies which have been regularized. Out of the dedicated land, JDA allotted land to Fortis Hospital, World Trade Park and Genpect but colonies like Shri Vihar, Panchsheel Enclave, Lal Bahadur Nagar etc. have not been regulated yet.

Taking advantage of this, there are efforts to encroach the land. Complaints regarding people occupying the land of this strip are often received in JDA.

Recently, a case of occupation of 12 thousand square yards of land in this strip under Panchsheel Enclave came to light following which the JDA removed the encroachment from there.

Town planning experts propose a comprehensive plan to address this issue. The experts suggest that a concrete and clear plan should be made for the dedicated land while focusing on commercial use.

Experts estimate that by implementing the measures, JDA could acquire between 50,000 to 70,000 square meters of land, potentially generating over Rs 1,000 crores in revenue from auctions.
