1st stem cell transplant done at SMS Hospital

Jaipur: In a major achievement, the state’s largest SMS Medical College has initiated efforts for stem cell transplant for the first time in the transfusion medicine department of the college on Wednesday. This stem cell transplant was done to a seven-year-old blood cancer patient admitted to the Oncology Dept of SMS Hospital. In this transplant, the patient’s elder sister donated stem cells from her blood. Recently, the blood bank of the trauma centre got NoC for the transplant. The process of transplant was done completely free of cost under the Mukhya Mantri Chiranjeevi scheme. First India correspondent had a special conversation with HoD Dr Amit Sharma in this regard.
