10k MGNREGA contractuals goes on strike, stages protest

Jaipur: Protesting against the termination of their contract and not regularizing them, around 10,000 contractual employees working under the MGNREGA scheme staged a sit-in at Saheed Samarak on Monday. The protestors alleged that their contract was not renewed, instead, new workers were engaged under the scheme. The agitating employees raised slogans against the govt during the mahapadav.

Protestors agitating under the banner of MGNREGA Employees Union said, “Nearly nine thousand employees are working on contract in Rajasthan. They have been demanding the regularisation of their jobs. But the govt has decided to terminate the service,”. Protestors said if the govt does not accept their demands, all other employees will also resign collectively.
