Three Records of T20 World Cup which can be broken in the upcoming edition

The T20 World Cup is knocking on our doors as the mega event is just 13 days away. The T20 extravaganza will feature 16 teams battling out on the field to be crowned the T20 world champions. Like in every edition, several stars of the cricketing world will once again take centre stage and enthral the audience with their stupendous display of cricket.

With numerous big names set to feature in the tournament, the crowd can expect many records of the World Cup to be broken in the upcoming edition. On that note, let’s take a look at the top three records which can be broken in the upcoming T20 World Cup in Australia:

1. Most Runs in T20 WC History:

Sri Lankan legend Mahela Jayawardene sits comfortably on top of the list of highest run scorers in T20 World Cup history having 1016 runs to his name. The upcoming edition might see his record getting broken as he’s being closely followed by Rohit Sharma (847 runs), Virat Kohli (845 runs) and David Warner (762 runs). All three batters are capable of dethroning Jayawardene at the top and we will surely get to see a new batter holding the record after the upcoming edition.

2. Highest Individual Score:

Brendon Mccullum holds the record for the highest individual score in T20 World Cup. The wicketkeeper batter scored a magnificent 123 off 58 balls against Bangladesh in the 2012 edition of the tournament. There are several aggressive openers who can shatter Mccullum’s record like Rohit Sharma, David Warner and Jos Buttler. All three batters are one of the most explosive openers going around in T20 internationals and surely have a shot at the record.

3. Most five wicket-hauls by a bowler in T20 WC:

In the 15-year-long history of the T20 World Cup, the tournament has seen nine five-wicket hauls being taken by the bowlers across seven editions. To this day, no bowler has been able to pick two five-wicket hauls in the history of the tournament which could possibly change in the upcoming edition. Mustafizur Rahman, Mujeeb Ur Rahman and Adam Zampa are also among the bowlers who have one five-wicket haul to their name. All three bowlers have a good chance to become the first bowler ever to pick two five-wicket hauls in the upcoming edition of the T20 World Cup.
