2022 Asia Cup: 6 teams, 1 trophy; Cricket-o-mania makes a comeback

Asia Cup, the most awaited sports affair this year is to begin on Saturday, August 27 at UAE. Opening match of the tournament will be played between Sri Lanka and Afghanistan. India will play Its first match against arch-rival Pakistan on Sunday, August 28.

The most recent encounter between India and Pakistan was at the T20 World Cup 2021, where Pakistan defeated India by 10 wickets. So this time, India is on its toes to give it back to Pakistan. It would be enthralling to watch both countries playing against each other, as the very first match they are playing at Asia Cup this year.

Two groups will be playing at Asia Cup :

Group A - India, Pakistan, Hong Kong

Group B - Sri Lanka, Afghanistan, and Bangladesh

Each team will play one match against the team in their group, and the top 2 teams will qualify for the super 4 stage. At the Super 4 stage one team will play each match against all three teams and the top 2 teams are to qualify for the finals.

The most successful team of the Asia Cup has been India with 7 titles, winning their first in 1984 in the very first edition of Asia Cup. Sri Lanka has succeeded India by winning the title 5 times, following Pakistan, a two-time winner.

This is the second time when Asia Cup will be played in a T-20 format, it was first played in 2016 when India defeated Bangladesh by 8 wickets.
