Yogi govt closed down 150 slaughter houses in 4.5 yrs
Lucknow: As part of its ongoing mission to protect cows and stop its smuggling, the Yogi Government has shut down 150 illegal slaughter houses and identified 356 cattle mafias while initiating legal action against 1,823 accused and confiscating assets worth more than Rs 18 crore of 68 smugglers booked under the UP Gangsters and Anti-Social Activities (Prevention) Act in the last four and a half years, said an official spokesman.
The regulations for the operation and maintenance of slaughter houses were also thrown to the winds during the SP Government, the release added.
Permission was given to those willing to open slaughter houses indiscriminately without adherence to rules.Things, changed after Yogi took over as the CM of UP.
According to Urban Development Department data, 150 slaughter houses with capacity to slaughter 300, 400 and 500 animals daily have been closed in districts for not complying with the prescribed standards.
Police Department’s latest data shows, 319 smugglers have been arrested in last four and a half years , while properties of two have been attached and 14 have been booked under the National Security Act.
