Laal Singh Chaddha trolled as a cheap copy of Forrest Gump even before its release

Mumbai (Maharashtra): Aamir Khan is known for his perfectionist image as he strives to do his work with refinement. He works on a single project and focuses his entire time on it. As a result, the audience gets to experience a beautiful movie with at par acting. Now, the actor has come out with Laal Singh Chaddha, an Indian remake of the Tom Hanks starrer, Forrest Gump (1994).

The actor had planned a great occasion for the release of the film’s trailer, the IPL finale. At the opening ceremony of the final match, the makers of Laal Singh Chaddha released the trailer of the film, much to the anticipation of cricket and movie fans. As soon as it became available for the audience, the trailer gained a lot of traction from everyone who was curiously waiting to see the Indianised version of the Hollywood classic.

Aamir who portrays the titular role is playing a physically and psychologically challenged man who goes on to live an extraordinary life. The trailer gave a glimpse of the storyline that the movie will supposedly follow which shows stark similarity to Forrest Gump. But, being a movie that was adapted according to American history, would it work in the Indian background?

There are many aspects of the film that are written accordingly to the American rules and regulations of the 60s and 70s. Such as the allowance of lower IQ individuals to be administered in the military was a rule made by the Lyndon Johnson government to use more manpower during the Vietnam war. This was showcased in the movie to show the brutal and inhumane conditions of American politics during the time. But this has never been the reality in India. So, how the makers adapted the screenplay accordingly would be interesting to watch.

Many netizens have also criticized the film trailer where many compared Aamir’s acting to his previous films PK and Dhoom 3. Several also raised the question of whether the film would be able to adapt properly to the Indian setting.

Laal Singh Chaddha stars Aamir Khan and Kareena Kapoor Khan in the main roles. The film also stars Mona Singh in the important role of Laal’s mother. It also marks the debut of South superstar Naga Chaitanya.
