Will Ghulam Nabi Azad forge his own ‘Congress’?

New Delhi: Former Congress leader and former Chief Minister of Jammu and Kashmir Ghulam Nabi Azad had recently said that he will form his own national party. However, later he said that he will first establish the Jammu and Kashmir unit of his party, which means though the party will be a national party, but first its state unit will be established. Sources reveal that several long time Congress leaders who have a good local and national standing are in Azad’s touch and when ever Azad forms his own party, these individuals will hold the reins of that party. There will not be any ‘high command’ in the party, rather each satrap would be a high command, in a way.

It is being said that on Tuesday, Anand Sharma, Bhupendra Singh Hudda and Prithviraj Chavhan met with Azad and spoke at length about this new party. It is therefore being speculated if, prior to the next general elections, Bhupemdra Hudda would also give a shock to Congress. Notably, it was on Hudda’s insistance that the Congress high command appointed the party’s Haryana chief and chopped Randeep Surjewala’s stature. The meet between Hudda and Azad also means that he is planning something. He may term it a courtesy meet, but a leader who has given demeaning statements about Rahul Gandhi, what is the need to meet such a leader? So, it is possible that the Azad’s party is also called Congress, much like all the former parties are called that came out of Congress, and then Hudda may hold the reins of that party in Haryana. Anand Sharma or Prithviraj Chavhan do not have the political hold to run a party in their respective states, but they can try to find a leader who can.
