Will Bharat Ratna be awarded to Dalai Lama?

New Delhi: When the civilian honours are announced on January 26 next year, it may be announced that the Dalai Lama will be awarded the Bharat Ratna and a base for this is being prepared. For many years, after becoming the Prime Minister, Narendra Modi did not wish the Dalai Lama on his birthday, over concerns about China. But for the last two years, Prime Minister Modi has been congratulating him on his birthday. This means that India has changed its policy regarding China. Now India does not care for China as it was before. Now India is indicating that if China does not respect its sovereignty and territorial integrity, then India can also question the One China policy.

That’s when an allparty delegation of Indian parliamentarians on Tibet has proposed Bharat Ratna to the Dalai Lama. Last year, China had raised questions about this delegation. This time the Parliamentary delegation has also suggested that a common session of Parliament should be called and the Dalai Lama should address it. Both these proposals have been sent to the government and the government has to decide on them. Even if it is not decided to call a joint session for Dalai Lama to address, then it may be decided to give Bharat Ratna to him. If India does this then it will be a big deal and it will work according to the status of India which aspires to emerge as a superpower.
