Why is Vivek Tankha repeated by Cong in RS polls?

New Delhi: Ghulam Nabi Azad and Anand Sharma, the two most vocal members of the disgruntled Congress leaders’ group, did not get a Rajya Sabha seat, and in their place two other members- Mukul Wasnik and Vivek Tankha - got a chance. Wasnik got the reward that he was in the camp of disgruntled leaders but he informed Ahmed Patel about their plans in time. This gave the Congress an opportunity to bear that setback. But the question is, for what reason did Vivek Tankha get a chance to go to Rajya Sabha again?

According to sources in the Congress, there are two reasons for this. The first reason is legal compulsion. A good, renowned and resourceful lawyer is needed for the cases of Nehru-Gandhi family. Kapil Sibal had left the party. Abhishek Manu Singhvi is definitely with the Congress but he has become an MP in West Bengal with the help of Trinamool Congress. There are so many cases of Mamta Banerjee’s family and party that it will be difficult for her to give him time off. Chidambaram is stuck in his cases then KTS Tulsi is not of much help in big cases. So there was a compulsion to keep Tanka. Secondly, his name was endorsed by Kamal Nath and thereafter the Congress did not want to take any risk by rejecting him.
