When will Sidhu be released now?
New Delhi: Former cricketer Navjot Singh Sidhu, who was the president of Punjab Pradesh Congress, was to be released from jail on January 26. But just before that it got lacerated and he could not be released. His release was so sure that he was also invited by Congress and Rahul Gandhi to join the Bharat Jodo Yatra in Jammu and Kashmir. Positioning of leaders in favor and opposition had also started in the State Congress. But he was not released. Now it is being said that he may come out of jail in the first week of April. Significantly, Sidhu surrendered on May 20, 2022 and went to jail after being sentenced for one year by the Supreme Court.
Thus his sentence is coming to an end on 19th May 2023 and on that day he will anyway be released from jail. But then his release will not be the subject of any political maneuver. If he is released in the first week of April, then it will be considered from a political point of view. It is being said that the ruling Aam Aadmi Party in Punjab is also eyeing Sidhu. Earlier also there was talk of Sidhu joining AAP which knows well that at least one Lok Sabha seat is confirmed when Sidhu joins the party. For this reason, BJP’s eyes are also on him. By not releasing Sidhu from jail on January 26, the Punjab government has distanced him from AAP.
