Uttar Pradesh’s absconding IPS officer Manilal Patidar surrenders

Lucknow: Uttar Pradesh IPS officer Manilal Patidar, absconding in a corruption case, surrendered in the Prevention of Corruption Act Court in Lucknow on Saturday. The court sent him to judicial custody for 14 days. He was under suspension on corruption charges since 2020 and later fled.

Former Mahoba SP Patidar claimed he has been implicated in a wrong case. Questions were being raised on the Yogi government and the UP regarding the missing officer.

IPS Patidar was on the run since Sep 2020 in the death of crusher businessman Indrakant Tripathi. Indrakant had sent the video to CM Yogi Adityanath and the then DGP on Sep 7, 2020, accusing Patidar of demanding bribes. Next day, Indrakant was found injured in his car. He had been shot in the throat. On Sep 13, he died during treatment. On the instructions of UP govt, an FIR was registered against five people, including Patidar.
