‘Untoward incidents can be averted if cops perform duties properly’
Lucknow: Newly appointed Director General of Police Mukul Goel assured citizens that law and order will be top priority of the police department and with a highly capable team crime and criminals will be controlled efficiently.
“If police are performing its duties efficiently any untoward situation can be averted” he underlined.
Addressing the media here at police headquarters, DGP Goel said that crime should be controlled at initial level. “Frontline officers should not ignore small crimes at lower level. Image of police should be public friendly and victims should get remedy at police station,” he pointed out.
On Bikru incident, the DGP said the police should have taken stringent measures to control such criminals at initial stage. Negligence made such criminals stronger, he said adding that after review meetings with officials he will take necessary action to control such activities and end nexuses of police and criminals that caused such incidents.
Speaking about cyber crime control, he said UP police have put in efforts to control cyber crime and criminals. “We have obtained positive results to track down and further improvement in technology to strengthen operation will be implemented,” he said.
About farmer’s agitation in western UP, the DGP said peaceful protests in a legal manner will be honoured but if law and order is disturbed during protest it will be dealt with.
IIT graduate Goel belongs to Muzaffarnagar district of UP. He has worked as SSP in Varanasi, Gorakhpur, Saharanpur and Meerut districts and SP in Azamgarh district.
He was DIG Kanpur, Agra and Bareilly range and IF for Bareilly zone. His vast experience in state will benefit in upcoming elections.
