Under Nina, CISF gets new feathers!

Jaipur: It is a moment of pride for Rajasthan that one Rajasthan cadre female IPS officer, who is currently holding the ‘reins’ of the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF), has been given yet another extremely important assignment. For the first time in the history of Indian democracy, CISF has been given the responsibility of security of the Parliament. Till now this responsibility lay with the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) but on May 20, the Central government removed CRPF from this responsibility and handed it over to CISF.

About 1,400 CRPF jawans have been removed and in their place, 3,350 CISF jawans have been deployed. Notably, with a personnel strength of 1.78 lakh, CISF currently provides security to 357 establishments in the nation.

The 1989 batch IPS of Rajasthan cadre, Nina Singh, has scripted history by becoming the first female DG of CISF. When in September 2021 she left for central deputation, she was appointed as additional DG in CISF and thereafter she was promoted to Special DG in June 2023. A few months later, in December 2023, she was elevated to DGCISF.

In her three-year-long tenure in CISF, Nina Singh has raised the bar of the various capacities she has served and her exemplary performance has propelled the CISF to new heights, culminating in the central government’s decision to entrust the CISF with the prestigious responsibility of securing the Parliament. Although Nina Singh is set to retire in July, this significant development might lead to an extension of her service.
