Transport dept faces shortage of RTOs even as accidents rise

Jaipur: The Transport Department is passing through its tough period these days with 24 posts of DTO lying vacant. These posts are directly responsible for providing facilities to the general public. DTO posts are vacant even at several district headquarters also.

In a review meeting held at CMR earlier this month, CM Ashok Gehlot in the presence of Transport Minister, ACS Transport and Transport Commissioner had talked of institutional corruption in the department. But there has not been any improvement in the functioning of the department even after CM’s remark.

The posts of DTOs have got vacant after a recent posting list of promoted officers, said an official. Some of the department officials are evening saying, though unofficially, that the posts have been kept vacant to make quick bucks after the ban on transfers is removed by the govt.
