The judge, hearing the defamation case of MJ Akbar, asked to send the case to another court

The court, which is hearing the criminal defamation complaint of former Union Minister MJ Akbar (MJ Akbar) against journalist Priya Ramani for nearly two years, asked the district judge to refer the case to another competent court on Tuesday. The judge said that this court has been nominated to hear cases against public representatives.

Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate (ACMM) Vishal Pahuja started the final hearing in the case on February 7 this year. He said that this case has not been registered against any MP or MLA and it needs to be transferred to a 'competent court'.

He said that his court has been nominated to hear the cases filed against MPs and MLAs as per a circular issued on 23 February 2018.

The matter has not been filed against the 'MP or MLA', so he is sending it to the Principal District and Sessions Judge to consider handing over the matter to another Metropolitan Magistrate. Akbar filed a criminal defamation complaint against Ramani in March 2018.
