Prayagraj: Jailed gangster Atiq Ahmed and his brother Ashraf were shot dead at pointblank range by two assailants posing as TV reporters while they were being escorted to a hospital in Prayagraj for a mandatory medical examination under heavy security cover on Saturday night. The two shooters and an associate were taken into custody by police at the crime scene itself. The three-member judicial enquiry committee headed by retired Justice Arvind Kumar Tripathi of Allahabad HC and will also comprise retired IPC officer Subesh Kumar Singh and retired District Judge Brijesh Kumar Soni. They been asked to submit a report to govt in 2 months. Internet services remain shut in Prayagraj district as part of the security measures.
