Television heartthrob Sahil Uppal opens up about the bad treatment telly actors receive in the entertainment industry

Mumbai (Maharashtra): Sahil Uppal is gaining steady success with the numerous works that he has been doing. Be it a positive role or someone with shades of grey, Sahil has excelled brilliantly. The actor next will be seen in the short film ‘Second First Chance’ alongside Renuka Shahane, Ananth Mahadevan and Devoleena Bhattacharjee. Sahil sat down with First India Telly to talk about his role in the film, his television career and the kind of roles he wants to portray in the future.

Talking about his upcoming short film, Sahil said, “This film is very special. The first time I got the offer, I asked them who is working in it. As soon as I got to know the names, I told them I am game. I asked about my character after I confirmed that I’ll be doing the film because I know Renuka Shahane and Ananth Mahadevan won’t choose something that is not good.”

He talked about his character, stating, “When I heard about my character, I knew I’ll be hated because I am leaving my mother in an old age home. But then, I wanted to be a part of this and I have watched the film. It has turned out great. It gives a message of as you sow so shall you reap. So basically, it tells that today you mistreat your parents, tomorrow you will be mistreated by your children.”

About his working experience with Renuka Shahane, Sahil called her a natural actor. “If you have to shoot a sad scene, she will be fine before the director says action. As soon as she starts acting, she is so much in the required mood. So, I learned a lot from her, even the discipline on set. She is so positive as a person. You doubt whether a senior actor would speak to you but she sat with me and talked.”

Talking about the wide range of characters he has portrayed, the Swabhimaan actor stated, “I love portraying characters with grey shades. So, while doing Pinjara, I loved playing Omkar. That has been the best character in my life and I would love to experiment with dark characters in the future, for example, a gangster. When you are doing positive roles, there are limitations but in grey roles, you can add your own thing. As long as one is doing their part with honesty, they shouldn’t worry about being typecast in certain characters.”

The actor also voiced his opinion on how looking down on television actors by the film industry is unfair. “The content may be controversial but that is exactly what the audience wants. There are good and bad actors everywhere. To be honest, television is the toughest medium. Because in television, you get your script in the morning and a rehearsal time of max an hour or so. You have to understand those 10 pages and deliver a good performance. We also have to work 12 hours without any holidays. It is tougher than films or OTT.”
