Tamil Maanila Congress slams Udhayanidhi Stalin's elevation to Deputy CM, says "A democracy, not a king ruled country"
Chennai: Tamil Maanila Congress spokesperson AS Munavar Basha criticised the choice of elevating Udhayanidhi Stalin the deputy chief minister of Tamil Nadu, saying that only in a monarchy does the son of a king become the prince of the country.
"I congratulate Udhayanidhi Stalin on his swearing-in as deputy CM of Tamil Nadu today. But it is a democratic country, not a king-ruled country. Only in a king-ruled country, does a father become the king and the son becomes the prince of the country, but this is a democratic country," he said.
DMK leader and State Minister Udhayanidhi Stalin was elevated to the position of the Deputy Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu on Saturday. He is currently serving as Minister for Youth Welfare and Sports Development. Additionally, he will also take on the portfolio of planning and development. Stalin is likely to take the oath as the Deputy CM later today.
He additionally claimed that there were a lot of other senior leaders who could have been considered for the position of DCM.
"There are so many senior leaders in DMK. There are so many aspirants for being Deputy CM like Durai Murugan and other senior leaders, they are very much interested in getting the position, but they were not inducted in this position. At the same time VCK, they are also very interested. Likewise Congress also very much interested to get in power with the coalition, so they were not included," he said.
He also said that the Tamil Nadu public is suffering due to the taxes by the government, and accordingly the DMK party will be voted out of power in the assembly elections due to the "dynastic politics" of the DMK.
"Anyway whatever they are doing, the public must see what to do because already in Tamil Nadu public is suffering due to so many taxes increased by this government. They are appointing the CM's son Udhayanidhi Stalin as the deputy CM. The public will react in the coming assembly elections, definitely it will reflect in the election results and also DMK government will be thrown out by the people. This is dynastic politics, like when Karunanidhi was CM, so many people asked to include Stalin as minister, but till his last days he did not give importance to Stalin. But this time, why it has happened to make Udhayanidhi Stalin as deputy CM? they are having so many doubts. Why this urgency has happened?"
Earlier, Tamil Nadu BJP Vice President Narayanan Thirupathy criticised the recent cabinet reshuffle of the state government, saying that Udhayanidhi Stalin does not have the "maturity" to hold the post of a minister.
"Appointing ministers or deputy chief ministers is the prerogative of the Chief Minister, we don't deny that. He has all the right. But Udhayanidhi Stalin does not have enough maturity to become not only the Deputy Chief Minister but also a minister. A person becomes a minister, degrading, demeaning, saying that he will eradicate sanathan dharma, and you don't apologise for that. How can he become the Deputy Chief Minister?" Thirupathy asked.
