Tactic to increase Rahul Gandhi’s stature?

New Delhi: With almost everyday one or the other Congress leader stressing that Rahul should lead the party and the Gandhi scion declining to take the mantle, the real question is that when Rahul Gandhi has decided that he will not contest the election of Congress President, then why is the proposal of his name being passed by the state committees of Congress? Why State Congress Committee meetings are being called in every state and a resolution is being passed to make Rahul the President? It is also surprising that the head of the party's communication department, Jairam Ramesh, has said in a press conference that the resolutions being passed by the states are not binding. That is, the party high command is not bound to accept them, yet proposals are being sent from the states and about a dozen states have already forwarded such proposals to the high command.

In fact, this is being done to establish Rahul Gandhi as the supreme leader of the party and strengthen his moral authority. Any person may become the president but the biggest leader will be Rahul. It will be said on behalf of the Congress that all the state committees wanted to make Rahul the president but he rejected taking the post. There will be pressure on whoever is the new president.
