Suriya expresses his gratitude after winning the National Award: “Huge Honour”

Mumbai (Maharashtra): It is the year of Suriya and the number of hits he has provided within the year is commendable. The actor has now been commemorated for his performance in the 2020 drama, Soorarai Pottru. Suriya was awarded the National Award for Best Actor for the Tamil Film. The award was given by the President of India, Indira Droupadi Murmu on Friday in the country’s capital, Delhi. After his grand victory, Suriya expressed how honoured and humbled he was to have been bestowed with such a prestigious distinction.

The Jai Bhim actor revealed to ANI, “Huge honour. Truly grateful to the National Film Award jury and the Government of India. A lot of emotions are running through my mind. I have a lot of people to thank...Getting goosebumps. Truly a moment which I will never forget.”

“I have a lot of people to thank. To begin with, there is Sudha. This is her baby. The film gave a lot of hope to people during COVID-19 times. Then, of course, I thank my wife, Jyothika. Getting goosebumps. Truly a moment which I will never forget (sic),” he added.

Soorarai Pottru was an OTT film based on the life of Air Deccan founder Captain GR Gopinath. Directed by Sudha Kongara Prasad, the film also starred Aparna Balamurali, Paresh Rawal, Mohan Babu and several others.

Apart from Suriya, Ajay Devgn too won the National Award in the Best Actor category for his performance in the film, Tanhaji.
