Six dists in 12 yrs: Despite promotion Kaushal still DM
Lucknow: Kaushal Raj Sharma, a 2006 batch IAS officer and currently posted as District Magistrate of Varanasi, holds the record of being posted as District Magistrate of 6 different districts in 12 years. He was promoted to the rank of Secretary/ Commissioner 6 months back but yet he has not been assigned a post as per his rank and still holds the responsibility of the Varanasi as its District Magistrate.
The reason behind this could be that Varanasi which is the parliamentary constituency of PM Modi has in the last 6 months seen some unprecedented incidents like the Gyanvapi controversy, & the impending visit of PM Modi, etc. The state government which has moved all the IAS officers of the 2006 batch to Commissioner level rank is forced to keep IAS Kaushal Raj Sharma as DM of Varanasi.
IAS Kaushal has created a record by being the DM of Varanasi for 2 years and 8 months though has been trying to get himself moved from the DM post to a Commissioner level post. He is originally from the Bhiwani, Haryana was promoted to DM just 3 years and 11 months into the service. His training in Mussoorie began in 2006 and he was first posted in Bareilly in 2007 followed by his being named Joint Magistrate of Azamgarh in 2008 and CDO of Lucknow in 2009.
