Sidharth and Ajay’s Thank God lands in legal trouble for hurting religious sentiments

Mumbai (Maharashtra): Sidharth Malhotra has had a successful year with the release of Shershaah that not only boosted him as one of the top actors in the industry but gave him a lot of love from fans. Now, the actor will be seen in a more comical role as he preps for the release of his next film, Thank God alongside Ajay Devgn. A modern and funny take on Karma and the afterlife, the film showcases Ajay Devgn as Chitragupt, the God of Karma and Sidharth Malhotra as a common man who is being judged by the gods on whether he will go to hell or heaven.

Although the concept is fresh and fun, it has not impressed everyone yet. A man from Jaunpur felt the content was offensive and hence has filed a lawsuit against the makers. A case has been filed against the film’s director Indra Kumar, Ajay Devgn and Sidharth Malhotra in a Jaunpur court by lawyer Himanshu Srivastava. The petitioner claims that the film’s trailer mocks religion thereby hurting the religious sentiments of people. An official statement of the petitioner will be recorded on November 18.

According to the written petition, Srivastava said, “Chitragupta is regarded as the Lord of Karma and keeps a record of a man's good and bad deeds. Such depiction of Gods can create an unpleasant situation since it hurts religious sentiments.”

Thank God stars Ajay Devgn and Sidharth Malhotra alongside Rakul Preet Singh and Nora Fatehi. Ajay Devgn will be seen as a very modern Chitragupt who dons suits and sunglasses. Meanwhile, Sidharth is shown in his purgatory, with the gods scaling on whether to grant him life or hell/heaven based on the life he has lived. The trailer that was recently released showed the two men scaling all the sins that the common man has done in his lifetime.
