Should PM Modi, Shah meddle in bypolls too?

New Delhi: The Bharatiya Janata Party’s record of winning by-elections is very poor. The party usually loses in byelections, about which a lot of jokes and sarcastic comments are passed on social media too. In four states, by-elections were held on four Assembly seats and one Lok Sabha seat, in which the BJP lost all the seats.

Since the last Assembly elections i.e. 2019, by-elections were held in three seats in Jharkhand and the BJP lost on all three. Can you fathom the reason why BJP wins elections but does not win by-elections. Is it because Modi and Shah do not campaign in the bypolls? Usually the top leadership of national parties does not campaign in the bypolls. By the way, every election is fought on the face of Modi and with backing of Shah’s strategy.

But both of them stay away from strategising in the bypolls. If the BJP is losing because of this, then it should be a matter of great concern. This would mean that apart from Modi and Shah, the BJP has no other political capital. It also means that the BJP state leaders are of no consequence to electorate. Just think, BJP had sent more than 30 leaders to campaign for Asansol LS seat in West Bengal but it lost by more than three lakh votes.

That’s why BJP leaders are also joking that now Modi and Shah will have to get the party to contest bypolls too.
