‘SHOOT-AT-SIGHT’
Imphal: The Manipur Governor on Thursday approved the state home department’s shoot-at-sight order after clashes broke out across the state between tribals and the majority Meitei community.
Meanwhile, Manipur government has appointed retired IPS officer Kuldiep Singh as its security advisor in view of the spiralling violence between tribals and the majority Meitei community in the state, sources said.
Governor authorised all DMs, SDMs and Magistrates to issue shoot at sight orders in “extreme cases” whereby forms of persuasion, warning, reasonable force, etc had been exhausted under provisions of law under CrPC, 1973.
Around 500 personnel of the Rapid Action Force, a riot control police, have been flown into Imphal. They join the army, Assam Rifles, Central Reserve Police Force and police, who have been struggling to contain violence.
