SBSP leader removed for urging Muslims to hand over Gyanvapi

Varanasi: Amid chaos and protests caused by the court-ordered survey of Gyanvapi Masjid premises, Suhaildev Bharatiya Samaj Party (SBSP) leader and spokesperson Shashi Pratap Singh created a stir by urging the Muslim community to hand over the land to Hindus as it was part of the Kashi Vishwanath temple.

Speaking to First India, Shashi Pratap Singh said he was removed from the spokesperson post by the party “for supporting my deities”. “I had just appealed to hand over the land to Hindus as it was part of the Kashi Vishwanath temple in the past. Apart from being a politician I have faith in my gods and I will speak up for them,” he said.

Singh said that the Gyanvapi mosque was part of the Vishwanath temple and its architecture attests to that. He said that idols of Shringar Gauri Ma were inside the temple besides idols of other Hindu deities. The SBSP leader also appealed to the SC & HC to interfere in the matter and order that land be handed over to Hindus. Singh said that Varanasi is famous for Ganga-Jamuni culture and the Muslim community should come forward to strengthen social harmony by handing over the land to Hindus. The court has now asked both parties to submit their objections and fixed the next hearing for May 9.
