RMC’s mega rangoli competition sees wide participation

Rajkot: In a bid to promote artists, Rajkot Municipal Corporation (RMC) has organized a mega rangoli competition called ‘Rango ni Ramjaht’ this Diwali on the city’s Racecourse Ring Road.

Three themes have been allocated to participants including ‘Mere Sapno Ka Bharat’ (India of my dreams), Swachh Bharat Mission- Ek Jan Andolan (people’s movement) and Vaccination Maha Abhiyan (vaccination mega drive).

The programme, which is also part of the nation’s ‘Azadi Ka Amrit Mohatsav’, celebrating 75 years of India’s independence, seeks to boost the ‘vocal for local’ concept.

One of the unique aspects of this competition is to ensure fair judgment of artwork through public appreciation, who will be deciding the winners.

A total of 476 entries have been received by the RMC under individual and group categories so far. Participants from across the state including Ahmedabad, Vadodara, Surat and various parts of Saurashtra have entered the competition.

All artists began creating their rangolis on Tuesday evening and the competition was declared open for best rangoli by former Gujarat Chief Minister Vijay Rupani.

Every individual can vote separately for five rangolis in both individual and group categories using a QR code or registration number from the RMC application from Wednesday evening till November 05 midnight.

Top five winners (four each in the top five categories) will be announced in each category and awarded cash rewards between Rs21,000 to Rs3,100 in individual category and Rs31,000 to Rs11,000 in group category.

Also, 40 artists in individual category and 25 artists in group category will be given cash reward of Rs1,000 and Rs2,000 each, respectively.

A special coffee table book will also be compiled of the event with pictures of the rangolis and the names of artists who created them.
