"Restoration of membership won't affect health of Congress": BJP MP Sushil Modi on Rahul Gandhi's reinstation as MP

New Delhi: Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MP Sushil Modi on Monday said that the restoration of Rahul Gandhi's Lok Sabha membership will not affect the health of Congress, adding that he is still not 'blame-free' and only his conviction has been stayed by the Supreme Court.
He (Rahul Gandhi) is still not 'blame free', only his conviction has been stayed. His appeal is still pending in court. This is a common procedure for reinstating a member. The Supreme Court also said that his remarks were not in good taste. The restoration of membership will not affect the health of Congress," Sushil Modi said while speaking to ANI.
Union Minister Gajender Shekawat while reacting to the restoration of Rahul Gandhi's Lok Sabha membership, said that Congress party is celebrating SC's verdict as his acquittal is 'unfortunate and an insult to democracy'.
"Top court has stayed the conviction for few days but celebrating this verdict as his (Rahul Gandhi's) acquittal is unfortunate and an insult to democracy," Shekhawat said.
Earlier in the day, Congress MP Rahul Gandhi arrived in Parliament after the Lok Sabha secretariat revoked his suspension from the House.
Rahul's membership was restored after Supreme Court had on August 4 stayed his conviction in the ‘Modi’ surname remark case.
Indian National Developmental Inclusive Alliance (I.N.D.I.A) alliance leaders raised 'Rahul Gandhi Zindabad' slogans upon his arrival.
Congress leaders were also seen distributing sweets outside the Parliament.
The Gujarat High Court, had, in its order earlier, declined to stay Rahul Gandhi's conviction in the criminal defamation case in which he was sentenced to two years in jail by the Surat court over the 'Modi surname' remark.
The Surat Court had pronounced the verdict in March this year.
Soon after his conviction in the case, Gandhi was disqualified as MP from Kerala’s Wayanad on March 24. (ANI)
