Ranbir Kapoor opens up about the failure of Shamshera

Mumbai (Maharashtra): Ranbir Kapoor is currently busy promoting his upcoming film Brahmastra around India with his wife and co-star, Alia Bhatt. He also has several other projects lined up including Sandeep Reddy Vanga’s Animal with Rashmika Mandanna and before that, he had his first release after four years, Shamshera which unfortunately crashed at the box office. Although he had kept his quiet over the failure of Shamshera, Ranbir spoke about it for the first time during a promotional event.

Ranbir Kapoor and Alia Bhatt were in Delhi to promote their film, Brahmastra where Ranbir was asked about his views on the failure of the Karan Malhotra directorial. Speaking about it for the first time, Ranbir said, “If Shamshera didn't run at the box office it means the audience didn't like the film. The film didn't work because the content wasn't good.”

Shamshera directed by Karan Malhotra and produced by Yash Raj Films, starred Ranbir Kapoor, Vaani Kapoor and Sanjay Dutt in lead roles. The period film revolved around a dacoit community led by Shamshera aka Ranbir Kapoor that fight for their freedom from the British troops, led by Sanjay Dutt. The film opened to bad reviews and did not fare well at the box office. It also faced a lot of hurdles before releasing on the OTT platform.

Sanjay Dutt too posted a heartfelt note on his Instagram and revealed how the film met unwanted criticism even from the ones who did not watch the film. He further expressed that he hopes the film finds its tribe someday. “Shamshera will find its tribe someday but until it does, I stand resolute with the film, the memories we created, the bond we shared, and the laughs we had. the hardships we went through. I thank the whole unit - cast and crew of the film who stayed with the film for four years,” he wrote.
