Ram Gopal Varma says it is Ranveer Singh’s way of demanding gender equality

Mumbai (Maharashtra): Ranveer Singh never shies away from taking up a challenge. He has taken up some daring roles in the span of his career and has also been a bold chooser in fashion choices. Recently, the actor posed for the camera not in his over-the-top dresses but without any. Ranveer chose to go nude for his shoot with Paper magazine and it stirred quite a storm in the industry.

Though several netizens have trolled the actor for baring it all, his friends and colleagues have always come in his defence. Alia Bhatt had previously stated that she will not hear anything negative about her favourite costar who has done so much for everyone. Meanwhile, Ranveer’s friend Arjun Kapoor too came in to support by saying, “Kuch toh log kahenge, unka kaam hai kehna”.

Now, filmmaker Ram Gopal Varma too has spoken up on the issue and has said that it is Ranveer Singh’s way of demanding gender equality. He said, “If women can show off their sexy bodies why can’t men? It’s hypocritical that men are judged by a different standard. Men should have as many equal rights as women. I think India is finally coming of age and I think this is Ranveer's statement on gender equality.”

Meanwhile, Ranveer Singh has not spoken about the backlash and has chosen to stay silent on the issue. He is currently busy shooting for Karan Johar’s directorial comeback, Rocky Aur Rani ki Prem Kahani. He also has Rohit Shetty’s Cirkus with Jacqueline Fernandez and Pooja Hegde.
