Police constable killed in road rage: Habeas Corpus filed for accused wife in Delhi High Court
New Delhi: In the Delhi High Court, a habeas corpus petition was mentioned by a counsel concerning an alleged road rage incident in which a Delhi Police constable lost his life. The counsel informed the court that the wife of the accused has been picked up by the Delhi Police and is currently in their custody.
The advocate further stated that the accused fled the scene, and instead, a family member (the wife) was detained.
The bench led by Chief Justice Manmohan, also comprising Justice Tushar Rao Gedela, taking note of the matter, has scheduled it for a hearing on October 1, where the legality of the wife's alleged detention will be examined.
The advocate, through Habeas Corpus plea, seeks release of illegal detention of accused wife.
In the tragic road rage incident in the Nangloi area two days ago, a Delhi Police constable, identified as 30-year-old Sandeep, was killed after being dragged for about 10 meters by a speeding car.
The incident occurred when constable Sandeep, noticing the driver's reckless behavior, requested the driver to slow down.
However, instead of complying, the driver suddenly accelerated, striking Sandeep's motorcycle from behind. Sandeep and his bike were dragged along the road before colliding with another vehicle.
The car involved in the incident has since been seized, but the driver remains absconding. CCTV footage from the area captured the moments leading up to the incident, aiding the ongoing police investigation. The incident has led to a serious investigation, with the accused reportedly fleeing the scene after the crime.
