Rameswaram/Tiruchirappalli: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday worshipped at the Lord Ramanathaswamy temple here after taking a holy dip at the 'Agni theerth' beach. PM Modi, who was seen wearing a rudraksha-mala, prayed in the Ramanathaswamy shrine, an ancient Shiva temple in Tamil Nadu.

The Shiva temple, tucked away in the Rameswaram island of TN's Ramanathapuram district, also has a connect to the Ramayana, as the Shiva linga here was installed by Shri Ram. Lord Ram and Sita Devi prayed here.

During the day, PM Modi reached Tiruchirappalli and offered prayers at Sri Ranganathaswamy Temple and listened to a scholar reciting verses from the Kamba Ramayanam at Sri Ranganathaswamy Temple in Tiruchirappalli. Modi is the first Prime Minister to visit Sri Ranganathaswamy Temple.
