NGT IMPOSES ₹25 CR PENALTY ON HZL FOR FLOUTING ENVIRONMENTAL NORMS

Jaipur: The National Green Tribunal (NGT) has imposed a fine of Rs 25 crore on Hindustan Zinc Limited for violating environmental norms in Bhilwara.

At the same time, the NGT also ordered to constitute a three-member committee to assess the damage caused to land and water in the area and to make a plan for its restoration.

The panel will also assess the damage caused to people’s health and livestock in the area and will work for their improvement.

A bench headed by Justice Adarsh Kumar Goyal issued directions. He instructed HZL to deposit fine amount to DM, Bhilwara within three months.

The bench ordered formation of panel, which will include representatives of CPCB, RPCB & DM, Bhilwara. Panel was directed to file a compliance report by April 30, 2023.
