"NaMo Drone Didis are champions of innovation, suitability and self-reliance": PM Modi

New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday said that the women getting successfully trained in the Centre's NaMo Drone Didi initiative are champions of innovation, suitability and self-reliance.

The NaMo Drone Didi Initiative aims to empower rural women by training them to become drone pilots for agricultural purposes.

The initiative aims to equip 15,000 women-led Self-Help Groups (SHGs) with agricultural drones to assist in tasks such as crop monitoring, spraying fertilizers, and sowing seeds.

Sharing unique and touching stories of women empowerment on social media platform X, the Prime Minister said, "NaMo Drone Didis are champions of innovation, suitability and self-reliance. Our Government is leveraging the power of drones to further women's empowerment."

Prime Minister also shared a video where a woman named Krishna Patel hailing from Gujarat shared her experience of being trained under 'NaMo Drone Didi' initiative and lauded the scheme for playing an important role in her life.

"I come from an agricultural family. The condition of farmers is tough. By becoming Drone Didi farmers will get much-needed help. The labour work takes two days, whereas through Drone it will take only 45 minutes. Farmers won't have to work in rising temperatures. Our trainers were good. When I operated a drone, I felt that I had become a pilot. This scheme is unique," she said.

Earlier today, Prime Minister Narendra Modi extended greetings on International Women's Day.

He has also saluted the strength, courage, and resilience of Nari Shakti and lauded their accomplishments across various fields.

"Greetings on International Women's Day! We salute the strength, courage, and resilience of our Nari Shakti and laud their accomplishments across various fields. Our government is committed to empowering women through initiatives in education, entrepreneurship, agriculture, technology and more. This is also reflected in our accomplishments in the last decade," PM Modi posted on X.

This year, International Women's Day is celebrated under the theme "Invest in women: Accelerate progress".
