MP: 5-month-old cub of white lioness dies in Gwalior's Zoo

Gwalior: A five-month-old female cub of a white lioness named 'Meera' died after suffering from illness at Gandhi Zoological Park in Madhya Pradesh's Gwalior district on Wednesday, an official said.
The female cub was ill for the past week and its kidneys and lungs had stopped functioning as a result of which the cub died.

Curator of Gandhi Zoological Park Gwalior, Gaurav Parihar said, "The five-month-old female cub died while undergoing treatment here. The female cub was ill for the past 1 week, specialist veterinarians were treating the female cub but due to deteriorating health, it had stopped eating and drinking for the last two days."
Because of breathing problems, the female cub was also put on oxygen on Tuesday. The lungs and kidneys of the cub had completely stopped functioning, as a result of which it died, he said.

Parihar added that the expert veterinarians conducted the post-mortem of the cub. In the preliminary investigation, the experts said that the cause of death of the cub was the failure of the lungs and kidneys. The detailed reason for the death of the cub would be known after the post-mortem report.
The last rite of the cub was performed inside the zoo, he added.
Parihar further informed that the white lioness Meera gave birth to three cubs on April 21, 2023. Among the cubs born, there were one white and two yellow cubs. On September 21, a female cub died, now a white female cub died on Wednesday.
