Movie Review: Thalapathy Vijay shines in the cliched action-drama

Mumbai (Maharashtra): After the film Master, Thalapathy Vijay is back on the big screen with 'Beast'. Looking at the way the Hindi heartland audience showered Master with heartfelt love and watching the box office business of South Indian stars 'Pushpa' and 'RRR' in the last few months, all eyes are on Vijay's 'Beast' which has been released in Hindi with the title of 'Raw'.

Story:

In the film, Vijay plays Veer Raghavan, an ex-RAW agent who left his profession after the death of a girl child during one of his missions. Veer blames himself for the child's death and seeks the help of a psychiatrist. Coincidentally, he falls in love with Preeti (Pooja Hegde) and goes on a date in a mall in Chennai with her, which is hijacked by a terrorist organization. The terrorists demand the government release their chief Umar Farooq, after which government official Altaf Hussain (Selvaraghavan) negotiates with the terrorists. How Veer Raghavan rescues the hostages in the mall and foils the plans of the terrorists. How he completes this mission and achieves success is what the story of the movie revolves around.

Acting:

Vijay has done a wonderful job and carried the entire film on his shoulders. His style, action and comic timing are all excellent and he will not disappoint the audience fans in the theatres at all. He has delivered a great performance acting-wise. Pooja Hegde looks beautiful in the film but her fans will definitely be disappointed due to less screen space. At the same time, Aparna Das made her screen presence unforgettable despite the small role. Experienced actors like Selvaraghavan, VTV Ganesh, Yogi Babu, and Radin Kingsley have added charm to the film.

Direction:

Nelson Dilipkumar who is known for his dark comedy makes Beast his own with his fine direction. Nelson has directed many great scenes in the film, which the audience will like very much. The fusion of action and comedy was done by Nelson in the best way possible in this film, due to which the film entertains you till the end.

Drawbacks:

There is nothing new in the story of ‘Beast’. There is a lack of novelty in the story of the film, so the whole responsibility goes to the screenplay treatment and Vijay's acting. If some more screen space was given to other actors as well, maybe the film could have become more interesting.

Why should you watch it:

Vijay's strong acting has put life to the film. The scintillating action and dancing will definitely make the audience and fans clap and whistle. So, if you are a fan of Vijay then you must watch this movie. Director Nelson's direction and story treatment also make the film worth watching, especially the comedy and action will keep you hooked till the film's climax. Anirudh's background music is also amazing, due to which some scenes look even more fun.

Stars: 3.5/5
