The convict has also been slapped with a penalty of Rs 1 lakh by the court, which ordered an increased one year imprisonment to him if he failed to pay the penalty amount, the officials said.

According to a police spokesperson, "The incident had taken place in 2017 when the victim was five years old and the case was being heard by the Additional District Judge's court in Surajpur which announced its verdict on Tuesday."

"Due to the effective arguments by the prosecution, the court awarded a 10 years rigorous imprisonment and Rs 1 lakh fine to the accused. If he does not pay the fine amount, he would be kept in jail for one more year," the official said, citing the order.
