Madhya Pradesh: Administration seals basement and office of a Coaching academy in Bhopal after Delhi mishap
Bhopal: Bhopal district administration sealed the basement and office of a coaching academy that tutors students for IIT-JEE and NEET, in the city on Tuesday after Delhi's Old Rajendra Nagar mishap that claimed lives of three students.
Sub Divisional Magistrate (SDM) Ashutosh Sharma told ANI, "We have sealed the Aurous Academy. During the inspection, it appeared to us that classes may have been conducted in the basement and to avoid any possibility of an accident in future, we have sealed the office of the institute. We have also closed the way to the basement and will ensure that it cannot be used. The way to the basement has also been sealed."
"We will issue a notice and will investigate other points as well. We will submit our report to the government and if any other irregularities are found then action will be taken accordingly," he said.
"During inspection, we are checking fire safety and checking whether any kind of activities are going on in the basement or not. We will also check the lift audit and if there are exit doors or not. Whether students have been briefed about emergency situations or not. We look after all these things," the officer added.
On the other hand, Additional Commissioner of Police (ACP) Akshay Chaudhary told ANI, "All the coaching institutes are being inspected collectively to assess the safety parameters and action is being taken if any irregularities are found. SDM and police are jointly checking the safety according to all the parameters."
The checking is being done to see if the campus is safe in case of fire and waterlogging for the safety of students, he added.
Earlier on Monday, Chief Minister Mohan Yadav instructed officials to inspect coaching institutes running in basements across the state to ensure safety.
CM Yadav issued the instructions during a review meeting held at Mantralaya in Bhopal following a recent accident in Delhi that claimed the lives of three students.
Notably, three students died after the basement of a building housing a coaching centre in Delhi's Old Rajendra Nagar was flooded following rains on Saturday evening. The Delhi Police arrested the owner and coordinator of the coaching centre in connection with the incident and charged them with culpable homicide, among other charges.
