Legislative bodies should leverage technology to design welfare schemes for the marginalised: Birla
New Delhi: Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla chaired the Plenary Session of the 10th Commonwealth Parliamentary Association (CPA) India Region Conference in New Delhi on Monday. Deputy Chairman of the Rajya Sabha, Harivansh, and various State Legislative Body Presiding Officers also attended. The theme was “The Role of Legislative Bodies in Attainment of Sustainable and Inclusive Development.”
Birla urged legislative bodies to utilize technology to design welfare schemes for the most marginalized in society. He emphasised that public representatives must meet the growing expectations of citizens through legislative institutions. Highlighting India’s constitution as a model of inclusive governance, he noted that democratic institutions ensure accountability and transparency.
Birla stressed that India’s vision for inclusive development encompasses good governance, social progress, and environmental sustainability.
He urged legislative bodies to cooperate in creating equal opportunities for all societal sections & to reflect on their achievements over the past seven decades for inclusive development.
