Knp’s Golden Baba walks out of home, kin lodge missing plaint
Kanpur: Manojanand Sengar alias Golden Baba, famous Kanpur businessman who wears lots of gold like the late Bappi Lahiri, on Tuesday morning left his home leaving behind his mobile phone and did not return till noon, which was when his worried family members went to the police to report their apprehension of something amiss.
Soon after receiving information about the disappearance of Manojanand Sengar, officers from various police stations and top police officers including DCP BBGTS Murthy, ADCP Brajesh Kumar and Crime Branch officers reached the house of Manojananad.
The police checked all the cameras installed there and found that Golden Baba came out of the bathroom after t a k i n g bath, perf o r m e d pooja, and went out of the h o u s e with a pair of clothes. What surprised the police was that he neither took the security guards nor his car or even his mobile phone with him.
The police have now launched a manhunt to locate the whereabouts of Sengar. Manojanand, often called Bappi Lahiri of Kanpur, is a merchant based in Kakadev area. He would always wear 2 kg of gold and cover himself with gold ornaments from head to toe.
He also kept a revolver with him whose cover was of silver while the revolved itself was plated with gold. He came into limelight 10 y e a r s a g o when he reached court wearing gold worth lakhs of rupees, looking just like musician Bappi Lahiri. The women in his family, too, have with themselves a lot of gold and silver jewellery but never flaunt them.
There was an unsuccessful kidnapping attempt made against him 4 years ago and he has been threatened several times in the past.
This was the reason he had kept a gunner and a private bouncer for security purposes. Sengar’s fondness of jewellery began after watching the Mahabharata serial on TV, his son said.
He said that his father after seeing the artists of Mahabharata series began wearing gold ornaments and then his hobby grew so much that he started buying silver shoes to gold watches and covered his ears, revolvers, everything with gold.
