KHARGE EMERGES AS ‘NEW CONGRESS BOSS’

Raipur: On the first day of the session, the Congress Steering Committee decided not to hold elections to the party’s top council, the Working Committee, and authorised the new party chief Mallikarjun Kharge to nominate its members. The decision was taken at a meeting of the party’s Steering Committee which was not attended by the members of Gandhi family.

Sparking speculations about her retirement from politics, senior Congress leader Sonia Gandhi said she was happy that her innings could conclude with the Bharat Jodo Yatra. She was addressing 15,000 delegates on 2nd day of party’s threeday 85th plenary session in Chhattisgarh’s capital Raipur. She also launched an all-out attack on the ruling BJP, accusing it of “fuelling the fire of hatred” and “viciously targeting minorities, women, Dalits and tribals”.

Arguing that funding through electoral bonds was “fatally flawed” and “fully corrupt”, Cong called for a contributory national election fund at AICC plenary.
