Kangana Ranaut to appear in court regarding Javed Akhtar defamation case

Mumbai (Maharashtra): The newest development in the Ranaut-Akhtar defamation case states that Kangana Ranaut will appear in the court on July 4, her lawyer Rizwan Siddiquee said.

The actress had previously sought exemption from appearing in the hearing of the defamation case filed against her by veteran lyricist and poet Javed Akhtar. As a reply, Akhtar’s lawyer, Jay Bharadwaj urged for a non-bailable warrant against the actress for failing to appear for the hearing on various occasions.

In response, Siddiquee appeared on behalf of his client and said that Kangana will appear before the court on July 4. Hence, the court has given the date of July 4, 4 PM. Reports suggest that Kangana has also requested the presence of no media as she records her statement in front of the court.

Renowned lyricist, poet and writer, Javed Akhtar filed a defamation case against Kangana Ranaut in 2020 after Ranaut’s controversial statements post actor Sushant Singh Rajput’s death. The Panga actress had claimed that Akhtar was part of the “suicide gang” that push “outsiders” like her to their death. As a result, Javed Akhtar filed a defamation case in the Magistrate Court.

In response, Kangana Ranaut also filed an extortion complaint against him. However, the court will only hear the complaint after Ranaut appears in court for her statement.
