IPS OFFICER FALLS IN TRAP OF CYBER CRIMINALS, LOSES RS 50K

Lucknow: After the common man, now police officers are on the target of cybercriminals. Amidst the sudden spurt in incidents of cybercrime in Uttar Pradesh, the DG Civil Defence Vishwajit Mohapatra, an 1987 batch IPS officer has become victim of forgery and fraud. IPS Vishwajit Mohapatra was duped while searching the number from Google to book a cab.

During the process cyber criminals duped him of Rs 50,000 from his bank account in two attempts by convincing him for downloading an app.

The IPS officer has lodged an FIR in this context in Gomtinagar police station. As per reports, the IPS officer, a resident of Vishal Khand in Gomti Nagar, Lucknow, tried to book a cab online from Mumbai to Karad on February 8 for which he searched number of Allindiacab. net on Google. On the website he came across instructions for filling up name, address and mobile number besides the destinations.

After a few minutes of filling the details on the website, a person called and told that he was from allindiacab. net and asked to deposit Rs 100 for cab booking, for which a link was sent to him.

However, when the amount could not be deposited through the link, the caller sent another link and asked to download the app and send money through the app.

As soon as DG Vishwajit Mohapatra downloaded and opened the app, Rs 50,000 was withdrawn from his account in two attempts and when he called the person, his mobile was switched off.

Realising the fraud, Vishwajit Mohapatra lodged complaint on cybercrime portal besides a report was lodged in the Gomtinagar police station on the report of cyber cell.
